How Did We Get Here?

This morning while prepping for my week, I heard a story on Good Morning America about "Bare Minimum Mondays."  This is a movement about easing back into the work week by setting limits and boundaries on how much work you want to do on Mondays.  Add this to the fact that many people in the business world try to avoid major meetings or events on Fridays.

Therefore, I ask, how did we get here?  Is the goal a 3.5-4-day work week?

My parents never eased into a work week.  Monday came, they went to work.  There was no, "let's see how we feel about it."  No, "I want to limit my tasks on Monday!"  Police, soldiers, and fire fighters don't have the chance to experience Bare Minimum Monday (or any day for that matter!)  I don't get it.  What happened to work ethic?  What happened to doing your job the best you can, every day you can?

Without sounding like an alarmist, I do wonder how many jobs can and will be displaced by robotics.  Watch the movie Hidden Figures!  Computers were once people who did the computing.  Now, we all know computers are what we all work on when we work!  Computers (the people) were displaced because a machine could their jobs faster and better.  Makes you wonder which job function will be automated next.  Mine?  Yours?  If people are only willing to work 3.5-4 days a week, why not!!??  For those out there still willing to work on Mondays with me, keep going!
